Agora Laboratories provides a range of high performance
audio and video codecs including H.261, H.263, and H.263+, and a
complete H.323 / RTP / RTCP protocol stack. The founders of Agora
Labs came from Lucent's Bell Labs, and include the original designers
of the protocol stack and codecs. These are the renowned Lucent
/ elemedia products - famous for their performance and quality,
and exceptionally well proven amongst more than 80 market leaders
worldwide. Agora Labs is now actively supporting these products,
implementing enhancements and developing new products.
H.323, RTP/RTCP
Agora Labs provides H.323 and RTP/RTCP protocol stacks written
in C and C++ source code. Two versions of the stack are available,
both of which provide the same feature-rich H.323 software library,
but targeted at different ends of the application development spectrum:
- EX3230S
- portable to standard RTOS's, specifically designed for embedded
applications
- PX3230S
- pre-ported to standard host-based platforms, suitable for server
applications
H.323 and SIP are the two most commonly used VoIP
protocols. H.323 offers greater compatibility than SIP because most
of the VoIP equipment in the field supports the H.323 protocol.
H.323 also offers greater interoperability than SIP because the
ITU used ASN.1 to define many of the protocols that make up the
H.323 signaling protocol. Signaling protocol stacks described by
ASN.1 are difficult to implement, but result in products that are
very interoperable because ASN.1 thoroughly describes the protocol
and doesn't leave room for misinterpretation. If you are developing
VoIP equipment that needs to interoperate with equipment from other
manufacturers, the H.323 protocol will give you better interoperability
than other VoIP protocols. And Agora Labs has developed an H.323
signaling stack that makes it easy for you to implement the H.323
protocol.
Audio/Video Codecs
Agora Labs provides a range of Audio and Video Codecs as pre-compiled,
binary modules. These share the same unique table-driven architecture,
offering outstanding performance and quality.
Transmission of video in its raw format is far
too bandwidth intensive. Software components that compress and uncompress
the raw video data into smaller bitstreams whose bandwidth requirements
are more manageable, are called video encoders and decoders respectively,
or simply, video codecs. Like protocol stacks, video codecs that
adhere to the ITU-T international standards ensure complete interoperability
with other products. Agora Labs has four video codecs available:
- VX1000SP
- H.263 compliant video codec
- VX2000S
- H.263+ compliant video codec
- VX3000S
- H.261 compliant video codec
Audio Codecs form an increasingly important part
of the Agora Labs portfolio, with G.711, G.722, and a range of original
Lucent/elemedia Audio Codecs already available. Further Codecs are
being developed - please contact us for more information.
